MEETING OF COUNCIL OF CIS DEFENSE MINISTERS COMMENCED IN BAKU
Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan, Colonel-General Safar Abiyev welcomed participants of meeting on behalf of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and has expressed confidence that participants of the meeting would make due efforts for achievement of certain results for expansion of cooperation and mutually advantageous contacts.
Mr. Abiyev spoke of complex way of development Azerbaijan Republic passed after gaining independence. ‘Returning at will of people to power of the nationwide leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev has created stability in the country, has opened ample opportunities for development in all spheres. This political line continued today by President Ilham Aliyev, is directed on improvement of well being of people’, S. Abiyev has noted.
The Minister emphasized, that the people of Azerbaijan would reach more impressive successes, but the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict impedes the development. At the occupied territories, which are uncontrolled, the huge quantity of weapons and ammunition have been concentrated, the Minister stressed. “These areas are used for terrorists and illegal traffic of arms and narcotics. All this creates condition for new risks, preservation of explosive situation in region of Southern Caucasus. Azerbaijan is for the peace settlement of this conflict’.
‘We believe, that viability of the CIS in many respects depends on whether this Organization is able to settle conflicts in territory of Commonwealth’, the Defense Minister of Azerbaijan has especially emphasized.
