MEETING OF JOINT COOPERATION COMMISSION HELD IN TASHKENT
The meeting participants discussed the issues concerning implementation of the Intergovernmental Commission’s last year resolutions, realization of the program of economic cooperation between the governments of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan Republic for 2001-2010 and further development of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, more effective use of the TRASECA corridor, as well as deepening cooperation in humanitarian, scientific, cultural sphere, and broadening a legal base between the countries.
It was noted that the foreign trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, which made up 9,51 mln dollars in 2003 is a very low figure from the standpoint of possibilities available. Last year, Azerbaijan delivered to Uzbekistan different kinds of chemical products, equipment, and imported from Uzbekistan foodstuff, cars and spare parts.
There are three Azerbaijani-Uzbek Joint ventures in Uzbekistan, while the Trade House “Uzbekistan” is functioning in Azerbaijan.
The talks were resulted in signing “Protocol of the Seventh Meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Cooperation.” The document was signed by deputy Prime Minister of he Azerbaijan Republic, co-Chair of the joint commission Abbas Abbasov and deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Rustam Yunusov.
The signing ceremony was attended by Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Uzbekistan Aydin Azimbekov, and Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Azerbaijan Abdulgafur Abdurrahmanov.
Next meeting of the Commission will be held in 2005 in Baku
