MINISTER FOR EMERGENCIES MEETS WITH US AMBASSADOR
K. Heydarov said US-Azerbaijan relationship has been upgraded to the level of a 'Strategic Partnership'. Minister noted President Ilham Aliyev’s April 2006 visit to the United States upon invitation of US President George W. Bush strengthened bilateral relations even more. K. Heydarov welcomed US’s role in the realization of large-scale projects in Azerbaijan.
Mrs. Anne Derse highlighted the close cooperation between the United States and Azerbaijan and expressed her confidence that the relationship would continue to develop rapidly. US Ambassador was curious about the activities of the newly established Ministry for Emergencies, saying the agency dealing with emergency situations functions under the US Homeland Security Department. According to her, there is a need for both emergency bodies to share their experiences.
K. Heydarov updated US ambassador on the work done to form the Ministry established by the President Ilham Aliyev’s executive order of December 2005, saying a special attention is paid to application of the best international practices. According to the K. Heydarov, the ministry acquired the US experiences in this area.
The meeting also focused on a number of other issues of mutual interest.
