MINISTER OF ECOLOGY AND NATURAL RESOURCES GIVES PRESS CONFERENCE ON ECOLOGICAL SITUATION
Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Huseyngulu Bagirov held a news conference on April 18 at the New Azerbaijan Party`s headquarters to tell about the results of 2007 and the first quarter of 2008.
According to him, after the fines for ecological violations stipulated in the Criminal and Administrative Offences Codes have been toughened, the Environment Protection Fund enjoyed a 2.5-fold increase in receipts (AZN 500,000 in 2007). Bagirov stressed the importance of protecting mud volcanoes and national parks.
Bagirov praised the Heydar Aliyev Foundation`s campaign “Let Everyone plant a tree”, which allowed to plant 6 million trees.
He pointed out increased gas supplies to the regions allowed to achieve a sharp decrease in chopping down the trees.
The Minister said monitoring of the air in 8 large cities had been conducted. The information was posted on the websites. He noted 47 observatory stations monitored 27 rivers, 1 seaport, and 10 lakes.
