MINISTER OF NATIONAL SECURITY OF AZERBAIJAN VISIS AUSTRIA
In the frame of visit to develop cooperation between law enforcement bodies, including bodies of special services of two republics, minister Eldar Mahmudov has had meetings with Federal Minister of Internal Affairs of Austria Ms. Liza Prokop, other high-ranking officials, and also heads of bodies of special services, including director of Federal Agency on protection of the Austrian state and struggle against terrorism, the head of Service of External Strategic Investigation and chief of Frontier Service.
General-lieutenant Eldar Mahmudov spoke on democratic reforms conducted in the country, maintenance of the political stability, processes occurring in region and realities. He also informed about the work done in the field of fighting international terrorism, illegal circulation of drugs and other dangers of the transnational organized crime, has noted the work done in Azerbaijan in the field of combat against the international terrorism.
Minister Eldar Mahmudov also in detail informed interlocutors on the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and its historical roots and heavy consequences of it, has noted necessity of fair settlement of the said conflict in the frame of international law. General-lieutenant Eldar Mahmudov has emphasized importance of the further expansion of cooperation dynamically developing recently between bodies of special services of two friendly countries, and also exchange of experience and data.
At the meetings, has been especially noted the further activation of joint efforts in the settlement of some important questions representing value for both countries, and also in the field of combat against international terrorism.
The delegation headed by general-lieutenant Eldar Mahmudov has visited with the fact-finding purpose the federal center and teaching department of the Austrian group of special purpose “COBRA” and its antiterrorist group.
On May 19, Minister Eldar Mahmudov also has taken part in the international conference carried out in Vienna in the frame of presidency of Austria in the European Union “Dialogue between religions and cultures”. The theme of special discussion on this important action with participation of heads of bodies of special services more than 50 states - members of the European Union and neighboring countries were new ways of combat against new threats.
In the frame of visit, General-Lieutenant Eldar Mahmudov also has met the assistant to the secretary general of the United Nations Organization, the general director of the Viennese branch of the United Nations, executive director of its management on drugs and criminality Antonio Maria Kosta. At the meeting, discussed were ways of the further development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Nations in global combat against the international criminality, has been noted the expediency of development by management of the given structure on narcotics and criminality of the relative program for the country.
