MM SPEAKER MEETS WITH FRENCH AMBASSADOR
Touching upon the history of friendly relations between two countries MM speaker said that Azerbaijan-France relations had had steadily developed for recent years. Nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev’s visit to France in 1993 gave a kick-start to development bilateral relations. The negotiations conducted and the documents signed during Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to France in 2004 marked a new stage in development of relations between the two countries. Azerbaijan, according to him, also attaches a special importance to development of interparliamentary ties.
Then, Ogtay Asadov lingered over the role of the joint commission in developing economic ties and stated that Azerbaijan paid a special attention to cooperation with France.
Ambassador Rolan Blatman expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and on behalf of French senate speaker Christian Poncelet and on his own behalf he congratulated Ogtay Asadov on his election as Milli Majlis chairman. Diplomat noted that Mr. Poncelet attaches a great importance to the parliamentary democracy and express hope that bilateral relations will further expand in this direction.
Then, he told of the France-Azerbaijan interparliamentary friendship group’s activity, role of the French Cultural Center in Baku in developing cultural ties between the two countries.
