Number of Internet users is approaching 2 billion
Baku, October 20 (AZERTAC). This year the number of Internet users worldwide is expected to surpass 2 billion mark, that is nearly a third of the world`s population, said a new report from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
According to ITU`s report, 162 million of 226 million new Internet users on Global Network in 2010, are from developing countries, where Internet users grow at a higher rate.
By the end of this year, 71 percent of the population in developed countries will be online, compared to 21percent of the population in developing countries. ITU notes that it is considerably important for developing countries not only just get internet access but at the same time qualitative Internet. “Broadband access is our main target. It can generate jobs, drive growth and productivity, underpin long-term economic competitiveness,” ITU Hamadoun Toure said.
