OIL FROM CASPIAN PIPELINE REACHES TURKEY
The $3.2 billion Baku-Ceyhan pipeline is expected eventually to bring 1 million barrels a day of Azerbaijani crude to the southern Turkish port of Ceyhan for export to the West.
The oil crossed the Turkish border on Thursday and reached the first pumping station about 15 miles inside the country on Friday, Energy Minister Hilmi Guler said.
The oil is not expected to reach Ceyhan until the spring, said Jale Tuksal, media representative for BTC Co., the Company that runs the pipeline.
The 1,105-mile pipeline starts in Baku, Azerbaijan, and runs through Georgia before reaching Turkey. The majority of the pipeline - 672 miles - is in Turkey.
