OMBUDSWOMAN AND FOREIGN MINISTRY REPS DISCUSS CHILDREN’S RIGHTS
Commissioner for Human Rights Elmira Suleymanova told of the work done in Azerbaijan to project children’s rights. She said that Government of Azerbaijan submitted the report on children’s rights in Azerbaijan to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child. According to her, the report was heard at the committee in January this year and government received relevant recommendations. E. Suleymanova highlighted the need for creating a special department on the rights of the child under the Ombudsperson’s office.
Chairwoman of the State Committee on Family, Women and Children Hijran Huseynova, chief of the Foreign Ministry’s department Murad Najafov spoke of the work done to prepare the plan of joint activity aimed at more effective protection of the children’s rights.
The discussions, which involved representatives of the government agencies and non-governmental organizations, addressed the goals resulting from the UN Committee’s recommendations. Event participants put forth their proposals to prepare the plan of activity and identified the prospects of further cooperation.
