PACE observation mission praises pre-election situation in Azerbaijan
Baku, October 21 (AZERTAC). “The 5-man PACE observation mission welcomes peaceful conduct of election campaign. Progress achieved by the Central Election Commission and more attention paid to voter education programs and checking voter lists is praiseworthy,” head of the PACE pre-electoral mission Paul Wille said at a press conference on the results of the Azerbaijan visit.
According to Wille, the good thing is that unlike previous election, opposition takes an active part in the election campaigning. He pointed out opposition`s setting up election blocs is an integral part of the democratic process. The mission also welcomes new opportunities for NGOs to participate in the election process.
He noted the mission sees some problems and expressed hope that they would be gradually solved.
Wille underlined PACE short-term mission will arrive in Azerbaijan on the voting day to monitor voting in the majority of regions.
