PACE PRESIDENT BESTOWED WITH HIGHEST AWARD OF FRANCE
President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Deputy from the Netherlands, Rene van der Linden was bestowed with the National Order of the Legion of Honor, France’s highest award. On behalf of the French President Sarkozy, the ambassador of this country to the Kingdom of Netherlands presented the Award to the PACE President.
PACE President was awarded for special contributions in the field of further development of democracy and human rights protection in Europe.
In the ceremony of presentation, Rene van der Linden expressed to the French people and President Sarkozy gratitude for the highest award to his work, spoke of the activity of the Council of Europe, with 47 member countries, especially underlining necessity of the admission of Turkey and Russia to the European Union.
As known, at the forthcoming winter session of PACE, Rene van der Linden will be substituted by head of the delegation of the Russian Duma to the PACE.
