PREMIER RASIZADE MEETS WITH RUSSIA’S DEFENSE MINISTER
The Premier said he believed the visit will make an additional contribution to development and deepening of the relationship between Azerbaijan and Russia.
Speaking about the Azerbaijan-Russia economic ties, he mentioned that the goods turnover between the two countries had exceeded $1 billion in 2005, and tends to keep growing.
Premier A. Rasizade noted that his country is looking forward to the official opening of the Year of Russia in Azerbaijan to be attended by President Vladimir Putin.
He pointed out that there were no unresolved problems left in relations between Azerbaijan and Russia.
The Prime Minister also informed the Russian delegation on the economic situation in the country, and touched upon the issues concerning the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.
Russian Defense Minister Sergey Ivanov, for his part, highly valued the state of the Azerbaijan-Russia relationship, especially pointing out that “the Russian language is respected in Azerbaijan as against other CIS countries”.
Dwelling on the bilateral military-technical cooperation, the Defense Minister noted that “the Azerbaijan’s long-term lease of the Gabala Radar Station to Russia has strengthened Russia’s general security system.”
He also informed the Prime Minister Rasizade on the talks he had held with his Azerbaijani counterpart.
Present at the meeting were Defense Minister of Azerbaijan Colonel -General Safar Abiyev and Russia’s charge d’affaires in Azerbaijan Pyotr Burdykin.
