PRESIDENT ATTENDS CONFERENCE OF US-AZERBAIJAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Opening the event USACC Co-Chairman Mr. James Baker described it as good opportunity for American businessmen to learn of the current investment environment in Azerbaijan, the report says.
President Ilham Aliyev delivered a keynote address at the conference. He pointed the role of the Chamber of Commerce in development of US-Azerbaijan strategic partnership. Speaking of successful implementation of the Heydar Aliyev –initiated oil strategy, the Azerbaijani leader said these important energy projects would have hardly been realized without support from American government and organizations. The President pointed out that this year will be marked by commissioning of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, starting gas production from Shah Deniz filed and thereby, delivery of Azerbaijan’s energy resources to the world market.
According to the President, it will promote expanding of cooperation between Caspian littoral states, and further turn into a global project.
The Azerbaijani leader spoke of the development of non-oil sector in the country, as well. He advised on 380 thousand jobs created over the last two and half years in this sector, loans granted to farmers on preferential terms, and numerous social programs being implemented in Azerbaijan. The President pointed out that every Azerbaijani citizen and every family should feel the effect of revenues from oil export, adding that great part of the state budget is spent on pay rise and improvement of refuges’ and internally displaced persons’ living conditions. “Political and economic reforms are being held in parallel. There is a firm unity between people and power,” he said.
The Head of State also dwelt on the bitter consequences of Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Finally President Ilham Aliyev invited American businessmen to visit Azerbaijan.
