PRESIDENT EXTENDS CHRISTMAS CONGRATULATIONS TO ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY OF AZERBAIJAN
The address reads:
Dear fellow countrymen!
I extend my cordial congratulations and best wishes on Christmas to all of you, Christians of Azerbaijan.
Various religions have been historically and continue today living in mutual respect and peaceful side-by-side activities. It is gratifying to note that displaying high respect to previous holy books and religions, including Christianity, Islam has always been instilling patience and high tolerance in people of different faiths. The holy book of Muslims, the Koran mentions Jesus Christ and his birth with love that evidences that traditionally good relationship between our religions rests upon an inviolable foundation.
No ethnic or religious discrimination has ever been allowed in Azerbaijan, which is known as an example of tolerance; all nations living here safeguarded and developed their tongues and cultures, religious convictions and national traditions.
Like all our citizens - regardless of their tongues, ethnic or religious belongings - the orthodox Christians take advantage of democratic and legal conditions created in the republic, and fully enjoy human rights and freedoms being closely involved in the historical process of reformation and building independent state, and performing their civil duties in a worthy manner.
Dear sisters and brothers!
Christmas is a holiday of rebirth, peace and mercy.
Again, I wish you good health, family happiness and peace.
Merry Christmas!
