PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV RECEIVES GEORGIA’S PATRIARCH ILIA II

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev today received at the presidential palace Georgia’s Patriarch Ilia II, who arrived in Baku to mark the 25th anniversary of Allahshukur Pashazade’s presidency of the Caucasian Muslims’ Board.

The President pointed to steady development of Azerbaijan-Georgia all-round cooperation and friendship between the two peoples. He noted the close ties between the Georgia’s Patriarchy and Caucasian Muslim’s Board contribute to further cementing this cooperation.

For his part, Patriarch Ilia II greeted the Azerbaijani leader on behalf of the Georgian people, and conveyed to him profound respect and the most cordial wishes of his country’s President Mikhail Saakashvili. He added it was his pleasure to attend the event to mark the 25th anniversary of activity of Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims’ Board Allahshukur Pashazade as Sheikh ul Islam.

President Ilham Aliyev thanked his visitor for the warm words and asked him to convey greetings to Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili.
