PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN DECREES ON CONVENING II CONGRESS OF WORLD AZERBAIJANIS
“During the period of independence, the Republic of Azerbaijan has achieved important successes in the field of construction of the national state, has strengthened the political-legal, social and economic foundations, on the economic potential, the level of the democratic development, the position held in the international community, the Republic has turned to the leading state of region.
The achieved successes promoted maintenance of national unity in the country, to strengthening of solidarity between Azerbaijanis of the world. Each step forward undertaken by the country, each achieved success even more has inspired the our compatriots living worldwide, has increased greatly their belief in our independent state, national sense and hopes for the future, has created ground for their close rallying around of national interests of the Azerbaijan Republic.
The Decree further says: ”The author of idea of unification of Azerbaijanis of the world around of our independent state and the uniform purpose, was our national leader Heydar Aliyev. The question of unity and organization of Azerbaijanis living abroad constantly was in the center of his attention, during numerous visits to various foreign countries he carried out meetings with representatives of the Azerbaijan Diaspora, in details was interested in their problems and cares. Carried out on Heydar Aliyev’s Decree on November 9-10, 2001, in Baku the I Congress of World Azerbaijanis represented historical value from the point of view of unification of our compatriots living abroad around of the idea of Azerbaijanism and their organization, has promoted the beginning of a new stage in development of movement of Diaspora”.
Further, the Decree emphasizes that “with a view of the analysis of problems and cares of the Azerbaijanis living in foreign countries, present position in the field of their unity and organization, discussion of forthcoming tasks in the field of the further strengthening their connections with the Azerbaijan Republic, bringing up to the world community of the truth about our country, improvements of work on creation of Diaspora, the II Congress of World Azerbaijanis will be convened on March, 16, 2006 in the city of Baku”.
