The meeting between Chairman Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov and the President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus took place in private. Then, the meeting has been continued in an expanded format.

Speaking about history of friendly relations between Azerbaijan and the Lithuanian Republic, Chairman of Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov said: “Azerbaijan after gaining state independence has adjusted its relations with all democratic states. Azerbaijan is interested in development of links with Lithuania as with an authoritative member of the European family, and we are assured, that present visit of President Valdas Adamkus to Baku will stimulate all-around development of cooperation’.

Chairman of Parliament has in detail informed on democratic development of Azerbaijan, carried out legal and the economic reforms, the reached successes. He noted, that Azerbaijan is a most quickly developing country of region’. Speaker of Azerbaijan informed also on the BTC oil project to operate shortly.

Speaking about inter-parliamentary relations, Mr. Asadov has informed, that a group of friendship with parliament of Lithuania has been created in Milli Majlis. He expressed hope for expansion and development of relations between the parliaments after current visit of the Lithuanian President.

President Valdas Adamkus thanked for rendered hospitality. The guest expressed satisfaction with the visit to Azerbaijan, the meeting with President Ilham Aliyev, and negotiations. ‘Dynamical development of Azerbaijan, the successes reached for small time arouses great interest. We trust, that relations between our countries will further expand and strengthen’.
