PRESIDENT RECEIVES CREDENTIALS FROM NEW RUSSIAN AMBASSADOR TO AZERBAIJAN
Presenting credentials to the Azerbaijani President, Ambassador Vasiliy Istratov said:
Mr. President, it is a great honor for me to present you with my credentials as Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Azerbaijan, and the letter of recall of my predecessor. President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin charged me with conveying his best wishes to you. He is deeply satisfied at the fact that our relationship, which has reached the level of strategic partnership over the last few years, is now developing dynamically in line with interests of both Russian and Azeri people. He commissioned me to do my best for the friendship between our two countries to strengthen and deepen.
In turn, President Ilham Aliyev said:
Welcome to Azerbaijan, and congratulations on the appointment. I am sure that our relations will be getting even better during your tenure. As you have mentioned, the today’s relations between Azerbaijan and Russia are relations between friends, and they are characterized by the high level of mutual understanding and mutual trust. And, the fact that you characterize them as relations of strategic partnership is very important in itself.
Over the last few years, we have had the highest level of mutual understanding in all fields - in the framework of economic and humanitarian cooperation and, of course, in political sphere. It fully reflects out intentions, and meets our interests.
Relatively recently I have been to Moscow, where had a meeting with President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin to discuss a wide range of aspects of bilateral relations. And today, as they say, there are no unresolved problems between us. It is indeed a great achievement, if to recall the 90s and look how things are going on today. It is, of course, absolutely different situation. All this demonstrates again that if relations between neighbors, friends or partners are based on mutual understanding and friendship, they always lead to improvement of a situation in entire region.
I am hopeful that you will also make contribution to cementing our ties, because much depends on ambassadors. I wish you success on this post, and hope the years you are going to spent in our country will be memorable, important and dear to you.
