PROSPECTS OF MILITARY COOPERATION BETWEEN AZERBAIJAN AND USA DISCUSSED
On the information received form the press-service of the ministry, having welcomed the visitor, the Minister has noted, that cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United States of America constantly extends. Azerbaijan actively continues also the cooperation with the NATO.
Mr. John McDougal has declared that the USA renders Azerbaijan all assistance in performance of positions of the Plan of Activity on Individual Cooperation.
Speaking about the work done in the field of settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, colonel-general Safar Abiyev has told: “In this question there is no progress. Armenia continuously arms. The management of the aggressor-state declares that they can recognize independence of Nagorno Karabakh. And it can lead to renewal of battles. We demand that the conflict has been settled on the basis of international legal norms that the seized lands have been released. In some months, the BTC pipeline will be put into operation representing great value for region, and the next year - the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas main. And this conflict is serious threat for safety of the given projects.
The visitor has noted that the BTC oil pipeline even more will strengthen economic cooperation between the USA and Azerbaijan.
Further, he noted wide prospects of connections between the NATO and Azerbaijan.
Having touched also the parliamentary elections carried out by Azerbaijan, John McDougal has noted, that, despite of available fine lacks, these elections are for Azerbaijan a step forward.
Finally, the sides had a comprehensive exchange of views on military-political situation in region of Southern Caucasus and prospects of bilateral military cooperation between Azerbaijan and the USA.
