ROUNDTABLE MEETING ON INT`L DAY OF PEACE HELD IN BAKU
Baku, September 19 (AZERTAC). A roundtable meeting on the occasion of the International Day of Peace (September 21) was Friday co-organized here by the Ombudsman`s Office and Azerbaijan Alliance for Peace and Development.
The event participants exchanged views on a number of issues including culture of peace, the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully, participation of women in peace movement and promoting culture of peace through religion.
Attending the event, Azerbaijani Ombudswoman Elmira Suleymanova said fundamental rights and freedoms of Azerbaijanis were roughly violated in the wake of Armenia`s policy of occupation and genocide.
Suleymanova noted mediation efforts of international organizations to solve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict had yielded no positive results.
She underlined the importance of the fact that the agenda of the UN General Assembly`s 64th session includes the question on protracted conflicts in the GUAM area and their implications for international peace, security and development, situation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
The event participants also heard Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon`s message on the International Day of Peace.
The meeting culminated in adoption of an appeal to the UN General Assembly`s 64th session and Security Council.
