SANGACHAL TURNS IN WORLD’S LARGEST TERMINAL
Sangachal Terminal Expansion Program (STEP) construction activities aimed at building one of the world’s largest terminals have progressed on schedule, Azerbaijan International Operating Company /AIOC/ reports. Program has achieved 26 mln man-hours without any day away from work injury cases from the beginning of the construction works in 2001. It currently employs over 3600 persons of whom more than 76% are local Azerbaijan citizens. STEP for Azeri Phase was handed over to operations in February 2005 and oil has been flowing through it since the system’s start up on March 3. AGC Phase 2 facilities overall construction is 99% complete with the Phase 2 commissioning process already 50% complete, which is several months ahead of schedule. Now, it is planning to complete Phase 2 facilities construction and commissioning work at the beginning of the second quarter of 2006.
