Smartphone sales nearly doubled
Baku, November 13 (AZERTAC). Worldwide mobile phone sales in the third quarter grew 96% to a record 80.5 million units, while in the accounting period the realization of mobile phones increased by 35 percent - more than 417 million units, says a new report from Gartner. Today smartphone sales account for 19.3 percent of global sales of mobile phones. “This quarter saw Apple and Android drive record smartphone sales. Apple`s share of the smartphone market surpassed Research In Motion (RIM) in North America,” said Carolina Milanesi, research vice-president at Gartner.
According to Forbes, although the top three worldwide mobile device manufacturers Nokia, Samsung and LG remained the same - albeit with reduced market share compared to July-September 2009.
Moreover, Sony Ericsson and Motorola from top ten leaders reduced their presence on the world market.
