Sony stops production of cassette Walkman
Baku, October 26 (AZERTAC). Sony Corp. has announced the news that it has stopped production of its cassette Walkman. After realization of the last batch of such popular devices put on the market, the player will be removed from shelves of stores for good.
However, under the brand name Walkman Sony will continue producing music players with flash memory. Also, the company plans to continue production of CD-ROMs and mini-disk players, RIA Novosti reports.
Sony Walkman cassette players celebrated their 30th anniversary in 2009. The first player TPS-L2 was released on July 1, 1979 in Japan.
In 1980s, Walkman became one of the fashionable attributes of the youth due to heavy advertising featuring the stars of show business,.
But with the development of a portable CD-audio, and later media players with embedded memory, tape devices began to die out day by day.
Since the Walkman launched, Sony has sold 220 million of them worldwide.
