SPEAKER OF MILLI MAJLIS MEETS CHAIRMAN OF US SENATE’S INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
Chairman of Milli Majlis (Azerbaijan Parliament) noted strategic partnership between two countries, which is of exclusive importance.
Speaker Asadov also reminded visit of the Azerbaijan President to Washington on invitation of the US President, making accent on the negotiations carried out during this visit. These talks gave notable impulse to development of relations between USA and Azerbaijan, he stressed.
Speaking of the USA support for the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipelines, other large-scale economic projects, Mr. Asadov appraised investments of the American businessmen in Azerbaijan’s economy. ‘ We hope the United States will also uphold the Kars-Akhalkalaki- Tbilisi-Baku railway, he underlined.
Ogtay Asadov said the visit of Mr. Lugar would be useful for expansion of inter-parliamentary ties.
In meeting, also attending was ambassador of the United States to Azerbaijan Anne Derse, who said ‘Senator Lugar had been propagandizing democracy for over 30 years over the world. The goal of his visit is to study suggestions of Azerbaijani side related to development of democracy’.
Senator Ricrad Lugar said he was visiting Azerbaijan for the third time and as a close person to the USA President, the legislation and judicial bodies, he is to familiarize himself with ongoing processes in Azerbaijan, have detailed information.
In the meeting, also exchanged were views on a number of issues of mutual interest.
