STATEMENT OF THE PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN ILHAM ALIYEV

Dear friends!
Your visit to Azerbaijan, dear Vladimir Vladimirovich, comes to an end. We had time to discuss very many questions of bilateral, regional cooperation. And we have a concurrence of views on many questions, which characterize today's development of relations between Russia and Azerbaijan, and also to questions of region and world politics.
Yesterday, Year of Russia in Azerbaijan has been successfully opened. We are assured that within this Year, our countries and people become even closer that we also will be active to cooperate in political plane, to increase turnovers of trade relations and further to cooperate in the field of development of humanitarian sphere. Differently, in all directions of our cooperation we count on continuation and strengthening of those positive tendencies, which were generated for last 5-6 years.
Today, the relations between Russia and Azerbaijan, I consider, can be an example for relations between neighbors. Our relations are actually good-neighborhood, sincere, and friendly. And it allows developing actively our economy, actively to cooperate in all directions and also creates very good preconditions for large investment projects, economic relations between our countries.
Today has begun the work the Russian-Azerbaijan business-forum with participation of a plenty of businessmen from Russia. I hope, that results of this forum will very soon have an effect concrete projects, concrete decisions. And thus, doubling of commodity circulation, which we have achieved for 2 years, probably, will be only a stage of development of long-term active economic cooperation between our countries.
The potential for this purpose is, that economy of our countries develops dynamically. Russia wins first place in commodity circulation of Azerbaijan. Certainly, we count on the further cooperation. Within the limits of our meetings and negotiations with the President of Russia has been discussed the wide spectrum of regional questions, questions of regional safety, stability on the Caucasus and in region.
We have in detail discussed the question of settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and possible ways of settlement of this conflict. Also we rely in the further on the active role of Russia, as our neighbor, as great country, one of the co-chairmen in the OSCE Minsk Group in the cause of fair settlement, the resolution of this conflict based on principles and norms of international law.
We count that in the future in all directions of cooperation between our countries we shall achieve even greater progress, even greater activation of our efforts. For this purpose, there is all reasons - political will of heads, activity of members of the government. Our intergovernmental commission works very effectively. Also it is necessary to give due and greater role that we could to double commodity circulation for two years. And certainly, we count, that within this year in Azerbaijan there will arrive many visitors from Russia. We are very glad to visitors, and furthermore to visitors from Russia, the friendly country for us. Likely, there will come many creative collectives, will be meetings of old and kind friends. And, certainly, all this will pull together us even more. We very much hope for it, we count. Also I want once again taking the opportunity, to thank the President of Russia for visit to our country, that he has arrived to open Year of Russia in Azerbaijan, to thank all heads of the Russian republics and oblasts that are our visitors.
