Three French senators announced persona non grata in Azerbaijan
Baku, May 25 (AZERTAC). The French senators` visit to the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh region without Azerbaijan`s permission will not affect settlement of the conflict in a positive way, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev said at the press conference.
According to Abdullayev, members of France`s Senate Philippe Marini, Sophie Joissains and Bernard Fournier have been announced persona non grata in Azerbaijan as they visited occupied Nagorno-Karabakh region without notifying Baku.
French senators` illegal visit casts doubt on France mission as a mediator in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and one of co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group. Unfortunately, some members of the French Senate gave way to provocation and blackmail of representatives of Armenian community in France and damaged international prestige of the country they represent.
In connection with the incident, Azerbaijani ambassador to France sent a note of protest to the Foreign Ministry of this country and letter of protest to President of the French Senate. Both France`s Foreign Minister and President of the Senate called on the law-makers to refrain from visiting occupied lands of Azerbaijan. They reiterated France`s official stance on the conflict, saying the country supports Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty
