UN HUMAN RIGHTS COMMITTEE PRAISES CHILDREN RIGHTS PROTECTION ACTIVITIES IN AZERBAIJAN
Head of the delegation, deputy foreign minister of the Republic Khalaf Khalafov addressing the session said the key goals of state is to ensure human rights and fundamental freedoms in the country.
It was stated that in Azerbaijan, in whole, new programs and legislative acts are adopted aiming at protection of human rights, including the rights of child.
At the same time, the head of delegation spoke of the accomplishments in the field reached in short time in the Republic, also noted the existent problems.
Chairman of the Committee Jacob Egbert Doek spoke of the young independent Republic of Azerbaijan, reminding of its two main problems - transition to market economy and aggression of Armenia. Nevertheless, the Chairman gave high assessment to the works done in the field of protection of children’s rights.
In the frame of visit, Mr. Khalafov has met with the State Secretary on the Foreign Affairs Department of Switzerland M. Ambuhl. The sides had exchange of views on current status and prospects of the Azerbaijan-Switzerland relations.
Also were focused some other issues of mutual interest, including the visit of foreign minister of Switzerland to Azerbaijan, session of the joint Economic Commission, some draft agreements.
The sides dwelt on reforms carried out in the United Nations’ structures, issues of international and regional cooperation.
Deputy foreign minister of Azerbaijan has also held series of meetings with the representatives of international organizations in this country.
