UN WFP EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR HOLDS NEWS CONFERENCE
Head of the WFP Baku Office Rahman Choudhri, who introduced Mr. James Morris to journalists, opened the action attended also by the Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Republic, chairman of the State Committee of Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov.
James Morris spoke of his impressions in the country, treatment of the Azerbaijan government to refugees and IDPs and on the prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Organization he represented. Internally displaced persons live in awful conditions, he said. We must support them to return to their homelands and begin their vital activities.
The Executive Director said WFP has prolonged its activity in Azerbaijan for another two years - till 2008. The Organization will render assistance to refugees at amount 15,6 million dollars. This food aid will be directed mainly to vulnerable, in particular, the women and children. The education program will cover educational problems of schoolchildren.
