Underwater skaters' pool dive salutes Russia's team at Sochi
Baku, February 11 (AZERTAC). Inventive acrobats have dived into a swimming pool in Siberia's Novosibirsk - to "skate" on the bottom in support of Russia's Winter Olympics figure skating team in Sochi.
And they did it in front of a cameraman to prove the feat.
"Siberians are desperate people in the best sense of the word," said Ilya Gkushkov, emerging from the water. "It's minus 35 [Celsius] outside and cold on the ice so we decided to do it on the bottom of the pool."
A plunge recorded on-line gave project author Nadezhda Zaytseva the idea of taking the folly a step or two further.
“When we dived, we realized how difficult our idea was to fulfil. For the first two hours, we just had to understand how to behave correctly under water," Zaytseva added. "The water was pushing us out and Ilya had to wear a weighted belt as we posed blindly below the surface,” she said.
Practicing on the poolside and on the bottom took about four hours, the divers said.
