UNIFEM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TO VISIT AZERBAIJAN
Ms. Heyzer is visiting the country upon the invitation of the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and with support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and State Committee for Family, Women and Children Issues of Azerbaijan.
During her visit to Azerbaijan, Ms. Heyzer will be meeting with government officials, parliamentarians, civil society, UN agencies and partners in the international community, to discuss collaboration and partnerships to advance gender equality in the country.
The mission will start with a meeting between Ms. Heyzer and Ms. Hijran Huseynova, Chair of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Issues. They will discuss areas for future partnerships, so as to help identify areas of support UNIFEM can provide to Azerbaijan in achieving gender equality in the future.
Ms. Heyzer will also take part in an open discussion of findings of the 2005 UNIFEM Global Report “Progress of the World’s Women 2005: Women, Work and Poverty” in Baku.
