USAID, OCSE Baku office sign grant agreement on combating trafficking in persons
Baku, September 29 (AZERTAC). The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and OSCE Baku office has today signed a grant agreement to co-operate on combating trafficking in persons and strengthen access to justice in Azerbaijan. Michael Greene, USAID Azerbaijan mission director, and Ambassador Koray Targay, head of OSCE Baku office signed the agreement.
Greene provided information on the agreement. According to the document, USAID will support the OSCE`s efforts in the security and justice sectors on combating trafficking in persons improving access to justice. The activities will improve coordination and capacity among government and non-governmental actors in assisting victims of trafficking and forced labor, and train media to report on this topic.
USAID official also noted that the grant will strengthen access to justice, and fund Legal Resource Centers in Shaki and Lankaran regions of Azerbaijan to provide free legal assistance and information to the public.
Speaking in the event, US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mathew Bryza stressed the grant will strengthen existing partnership between Azerbaijan and US.
Attending the event, chief department on fighting human traffic at the Ministry of Internal affairs Javad Shikhaliyev spoke of works done in relevant sphere in Azerbaijan in recent years.
