VISIT OF DELEGATION OF AZERBAIJAN PARLIAMENT TO TURKEY
The same day, the President of Turkey Ahmed Necdet Sezer received the delegation of Azerbaijan in the Chankaya Palace.
Warmly having welcomed the delegation, President Ahmed Necdet Sezer has wished successes to the newly elected parliament. The head of the state of Turkey asked to convey to the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev his greetings and the kindest wishes. Having emphasized, that deputies are representatives of people, the Turkish President has told, that by means of these representatives whom people rendered trust, multilateral ties between the brotherly countries should develop even more. Having reminded, that in the near future he will visit Azerbaijan, the head of the Turkish state has told, that during his last visit to Baku he became the witness of intensive development in the country. Mr. Ahmed Necdet Sezer has emphasized, that Turkey would always support Azerbaijan in settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Chairman Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov has passed to the head of the Turkish state of greetings and best regards of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. He has told, that for him it will be honor to see shortly in Baku President Ahmed Necdet Sezer. Having noted, that Turkey always supports Azerbaijan in realization of transnational projects, Chairman of Parliament has told: “Our country is proud of development of the brotherly country and hat our countries in all questions base against each other. Chairman of Parliament has expressed gratitude for constant support by members of delegation of parliament of Turkey in PACE to their Azerbaijani colleagues.
The meeting of delegation of Azerbaijan with the Prime Minister of Turkey Rejep Tayyip Erdogan has taken place on the same day.
The Prime Minister of Turkey, having congratulated the new MPs, has wished them successes. He expressed confidence that Azerbaijan would turn in a strong state in region, and has noted importance of carrying out in the near future a forum of Turkic states.
Chairman of Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov has noted, that due to efforts of the government last years Turkey has received even greater development. Chairman of Parliament has emphasized the high level of political links between the countries, also has noted importance of increase in trade turnover between two countries. He has reminded that businessmen of Turkey have invested in economy of Azerbaijan about 2 billion dollars of investments which gradually grow. Chairman of parliament has noted necessity of carrying out of even more active work in all spheres for development of mutual ties.
Then, delegation of Milli Majlis has met the first Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Gul.
Having expressed satisfaction that as Chairman of Milli Majlis he has made the first visit to Turkey, Ogtay Asadov has noted necessity of use of experience of parliament of the brotherly country. He has told, that the parliamentary elections carried out on November 6, 2005, in Azerbaijan have passed in democratic and transparent conditions, that by-elections would take place in May of this year in some districts. Having noted, that Azerbaijan and Turkey are not only the brotherly countries, but also strategic partners, Ogtay Asadov has told, that in the country there are favorable conditions for foreign investments, and within last year about 100 Turkish companies have invested in Azerbaijan’s economy.
In detail telling about reforms carried out in Turkey, economic progress and the work connected to membership of the country in the European Union, Mr. Abdullah Gul has told, that they feel pride, seeing intensive development of brotherly Azerbaijan. Having noted, that the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan MEP which in the near future will be handed over in operation, will be the big contribution to economic progress of both countries, he has emphasized value of the quick realization of the Kars-Tbilisi-Baku railway project. Abdullah Gul has expressed satisfaction that Azerbaijan and Turkey always protect interests of each other in the field of foreign policy.
Then, the meeting of delegation of Milli Majlis with the head of inter-parliamentary group of friendship has taken place in Great national Assembly of Turkey Haluk Ipek. Having noted, that is glad to welcome delegation of parliament of Azerbaijan in Great National Assembly, Haluk Ipek has told: “In spite of the fact that Turkey is concerned with occupation of the Azerbaijani lands, time works for the benefit of Azerbaijan in the solution of this problem. We carry out the work directed on that, and this year in parliament of Turkey the question on Khojali genocide has been discussed. On the Baku TV, we directly notice activity of the Milli Majlis, on regular basis we get acquainted with legislative process in parliament of Azerbaijan.
Highly having estimated the level of cooperation between parliaments of two brotherly countries, Chairman of Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov has reminded, that the biggest group of friendship in the legislature of Azerbaijan is the group of friendship with parliament of Turkey. Having emphasized, that created by Mustafa Kamal Ataturk, the Turkish Republic has turned to the powerful state with a worthy place on the political arena of the world, he has told, that outstanding leader Heydar Aliyev counted Turkey the country of the important strategic value, synthesis of the East and the West.
Ogtay Asadov has expressed confidence that relations of brotherly countries would become stronger and henceforth. He also has emphasized necessity of activation of activity of the Turkish and Azerbaijan Diasporas in foreign countries.
Then, members of delegation of the Parliament of Azerbaijan have visited embassy of Azerbaijan in Ankara, had in details a talk with employees of embassy.
The delegation has familiarized also with the Estergon ethnographic museum.
