Washington to host conference on 20th anniversary of US-Azerbaijan diplomatic relations
Baku, April 18 (AZERTAC). A conference dedicated to the 20th anniversary of establishment of US-Azerbaijan diplomatic relations will be held in Washington on April 25-26.
The conference entitled “US-Azerbaijan Relations: Vision for Future” will discuss trade, energy and humanitarian partnership between the two countries.
The event is being co-organized by the Turquoise Council of Americans and Eurasians, US Azeris Network (USAN), and Johns Hopkins University, and Caspian Strategy Institute.
The conference is expected to be attended by experts, business and political leaders from both Azerbaijan and the US.
An official web-site of the conference underlines that over the last twenty years Azerbaijan has consolidated its sovereignty and political independence and become an important strategic partner of the United States, both in the region and around the globe. The election of Azerbaijan to the non-permanent seat on the U.N. Security Council in October 2011 is a evidence to the growing role and increased capabilities of this nation in maintaining peace and security.
The US and Azerbaijan are cooperating in counterterrorism efforts and the nonproliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Azerbaijan provides multi-faceted support for U.S. and NATO operations in Afghanistan.
Azerbaijan contributes to US and European energy security and is a critical element of the “Southern Corridor”.
Bilateral trade is expanding as Azerbaijan is the biggest U.S. trade partner in the South Caucasus.
