World Congress of News Agencies held in Argentina
Baku, October 23 (AZERTAC). Participants in the World Congress of News Agencies discussed the future and prospects of news agencies. The congress came to an end in the Argentine city of San Carlos de Bariloche (Rio Negro Province) on Friday, ITAR-TASS reports.
During the work of the congress, its participants touched upon the most urgent issues and ways of further development of news agencies with account of new requirements of clients and active using of multimedia means. Besides, they discussed problems of protecting authors` rights and combating piracy, as well as methods of training journalists in conditions of advancing new technologies.
Participants in the congress were unanimous in their opinion that news agencies must stick to principles of accuracy, trustworthiness and topicality of news which cannot be sacrificed for the sake of rapid transmission of news.
According to the information of the congress organizers, 166 chief executives and representatives of 76 news agencies from all over the world attended the congress. During the congress, agreements on the creation of a Union of News Agencies of Latin America were signed. Such news agencies as ABI (Bolivia), AGN (Guatemala), AVN (Venezuela), EBS (Brazil), IPP (Paraguay), Notimex (Mexico), Prensa Latina (Cuba) and Telam (Argentina) joined the union.
It was decided that the next fourth World Congress of News Agencies will be held in Saudi Arabia in 2013. The Argentine state news agency Telam will preside at the World Council of News Agencies for the next three years. It will replace Spain at this post.
An international contest of photographs in four categories: crisis, disasters, sports and holidays was held within the framework of the congress. Works of photographers of Xinhua (China), AAP (Australia), the Hungarian News Agency and EFE (France) were named to be the winners of the contest.
The World Congress of News Agencies was created in 2004 on the initiative of Itar-Tass during the first meeting of representatives of news agencies in Moscow.
