2ND AMERICAN-AZERBAIJANI SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE HELD IN CALIFORNIA UNIVERSITY
The 2nd American-Azerbaijani scientific conference organized by Azerbaijan Council of America, Azerbaijan Society of America (ASA), as well as the consulate of Azerbaijan in the city of Los Angeles, was held in California University. Young scientists gathered at the California University in Barkley city, discussed current situation in Azerbaijan and on the Caucasus region.
In the scientific forum dedicated to history and literature of Azerbaijan, speakers exchanged views on the ancient Albania, the author of the novel “Ali and Nino”, historical monuments of Nakhchivan, the role of Islam in forming national conscience. In discussions, it was noted that after Nagorno Karabakh the Armenians carry out active propaganda for “armenianization” of the Nakhchivan region of Azerbaijan. Evidence to that was the exhibition recently organized by Armenians at the Harvard University of the United States. This cannot but cause concern among the Azerbaijan community.
Adil Bagirov, director of the “Network of the US Azerbaijanis” in his remarks produced figures testifying that the Armenians along the history never were majority not only in Nakhchivan, but also in none of the region on the Caucasus. As to the monuments in Nakhchivan, he said that in this region, have lived representatives of numerous religions for ages, and the ancient monuments discovered here have been created just by Moslem population of Azerbaijan.
Other sections of the forum were dedicated to economic, scientific and technological development of Azerbaijan, geo-political and international targets of the country, as well as discussion of establishment of strong community of compatriots in the United States.
In Forum, also speaking were president of the Azerbaijan Society of America Tomris Azeri, professor of Montana University Thomas Goltz, consul general of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles Elin Suleymanov, who stressed necessity of establishment of Azerbaijani Diaspora.
Professor of California University, outstanding scholar, one of the prominent Azerbaijanis over the world Lutfi Zade also was among the participants. LutfI Zade emphasized importance of the forum and congratulated the young scientists.
