Washington hosts conference on international academic cooperation initiated by U.S.-Azerbaijani Network of Academics

Organized by the United States-Azerbaijani Network of Academics (ANA), a conference on Connecting Knowledge Across Borders: Research and International Academic Cooperation was held at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
In his opening remarks, Fuad Muradov, Chairman of Azerbaijan’s State Committee on Work with Diaspora, highlighted efforts to strengthen ties with Azerbaijanis abroad, preserve the Azerbaijani language and national identity, and support diaspora and youth initiatives. He also emphasized the role of academics in promoting accurate and objective information about Azerbaijan and praised the cooperation between George Washington University and Azerbaijani universities.
Sevinj Mammadova, Assistant Dean for Global Initiatives for GW's Graduate School of Education and Human Development, stressed the importance of discussing various aspects of relations between countries within academic circles.
The event continued with a panel discussion featuring Fuad Muradov, Chairman of Azerbaijan’s State Committee on Work with Diaspora, Can Korman, Professor of Electrical Engineering and Associate Department Chair for Graduate Studies, GW School of Engineering and Applied Science, Lionel Howard, Interim Dean and Professor of Educational Research, GW Graduate School of Education and Human Development, Ali Mammadov, PhD Researcher in Political Science at George Mason University; Managing Editor at the Center for Security Policy Studies, Sevinj Mammadova, Assistant Dean for Global Initiatives, GW Graduate School of Education and Human Development, and Matt Winkler, Founder of Sports Management Programs at Georgetown and American Universities; Co-founder and Executive Director of SEME: The Sports Events Marketing Experience conference.
The discussion addressed key topics including the expansion of academic and scientific cooperation between Azerbaijan and the U.S., the establishment of long-term university partnerships, the development of joint educational and research programs, investment in human capital, and knowledge sharing.
The speakers stressed that successful international academic cooperation should be based on mutual interests and tangible results, highlighting collaboration between ADA University and George Washington University in key fields such as computer science and engineering, as well as data analytics.
They also emphasized Azerbaijan’s commitment to education, science, technology, and human capital, as well as the role of academic diplomacy in fostering long-term partnerships and mutual understanding.
The panel discussion was followed by a Q&A session.
