Azerbaijan win kumite team event at European Karate Senior Championships
Baku, May 5 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan have claimed the title of the champions in the kumite team event as the 39th European Karate Senior Championships came to an end in the city of Tampere, Finland.
On their way to final Azerbaijan outclassed Latvia 3-0, Serbia 2-1 and the Netherlands 2-0.
Azerbaijan sealed the gold medals after emerging victorious over Turkey in the final.
The Azerbaijani squad included Asiman Gurbanli, Niyazi Aliyev, Tural Agalarzade, Sahin Atamov, Rafiz Hasanov and Aykhan Mamayev.
In the individual kumite, Azerbaijan won three bronzes which came from Shahin Atamov in the 84kg, Niyazi Aliyev in the 67 kg, and Nurana Aliyeva in the women`s 50 kg weight categories.
Azerbaijan ranked fourth in the overall medal table of the championships.
