AGO MONITORING GROUP MEMBERS HOLD PRESS CONFERENCE
Members of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers Monitoring ("Ago" group) have today held a press conference in the Council of Europe (CoE) Baku Office.
Head of the Monitoring Group Per Sjogren said the visit aims to monitor Azerbaijan’s fulfilling its Council of Europe commitments, state of mass media, forthcoming presidential election, judicial reforms in the country.
According to him, the Group is realizing several programs in different spheres in Azerbaijan.
He stressed there had been positive changes in Azerbaijan towards free elections and freedom of assembly.
The head of the Group said adoption of statutory acts, amendments and additions scheduled to be made to the Election Code and law on freedom of assembly, as well as judicial reforms held in the country were successful parameters.
“Azerbaijan’s economy is rapidly developing. The fact that majority of Azerbaijani people are well-educated guarantees bright future. Civil society is very important for gaining success, and Azerbaijani government created all favorable conditions to reach it” said Mr. Sjogren.
He notified realization of several programs was planned in Azerbaijan, adding that a project was developed to improve professionalism of mass media representatives. The program will be realized at Baku State University.
