AZERBAIJAN-AUSTRIA BUSINESS FORUM HELDIN BAKU
Baku, April 24 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO) with support of the Ministry of Economic Development organized here Azerbaijan-Austria business forum.
The forum brought together parliamentarians of Austrian federal state of Styria, more than 10 Austrian and over 30 Azerbaijani businessmen specializing in transport, construction, consulting and home furnishings industries.
Head of Azerbaijan Economic Development Ministry`s administration Samir Valiyev briefed the participants on the economic reforms carried out in the country under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, the work done to promote entrepreneurship and other issues.
According to him, thanks to its economic development, Azerbaijan is one of the leader countries across the world. Over the past five years gross domestic product in the country grew about 3-fold and the poverty level fell to 13,2 percent, he said.
He added that improving business environment in the country is one of the directions of ongoing economic reforms.
Samir Valiyev pointed out after Azerbaijan regained independence, more than $60 billion was invested in the country`s economy.
He underlined the World Bank named Azerbaijan, in its Doing Business 2009 report, the world`s top economic reformer.
Valiyev added Azerbaijan is among the countries less affected by the global financial crisis.
Attending the event, chairman of the parliament of Austrian federal state of Styria Siegfried Schrittwieser praised the level of economic relations between Azerbaijani and Austria.
He stressed “such events” contribute to developing relations between the two countries` businessmen.
President of AZPROMO Rahim Huseynov spoke of “favorable business and investment climate” created in the country.
Following the forum`s official part, the two countries` business people discussed the ways to expand bilateral economic cooperation.
