Azerbaijan elected deputy chair of UNWTO General Assembly
Baku, October 14 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan has been elected a chairing country at all meetings of the 19th General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) which is continuing in Gyeongju, South Korea.
Azerbaijan`s delegation at the Assembly is headed by First Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Vagif Aliyev.
The General Assembly discusses development of tourism, raising economic growth, promotion of international understanding, supporting peace, and developing an action plan for the next 5 years.
The Azeri delegation also includes Director of the Baku Tourism Information Centre Zakir Aliyev, President of the Association of Tourism (AZTA) Nahid Bagirov and National Coordinator of the UNDP for the development of tourism in Azerbaijan Faik Gurbatov.
The 19th Assembly of UNWTO is held under the motto of "sustainable tourism". In his opening address the Secretary-General noted that "tourism is expected to play a leading role in social, economic and environmental sustainability" and "The 19th session of the UNWTO General Assembly is an important milestone toward achieving these goals."
