Azerbaijan, EU discuss future partnership
Baku, February 2 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijani Minister of Economy and Industry, chairman of the State Committee for European Integration Shahin Mustafayev has met head of the European Union`s Delegation to the country Malena Mard to discuss prospects for developing the bilateral partnership.
The Minister hailed Azerbaijan-EU relations as diverse, saying the EU was one of the main trade partners of the country.
Minister Mustafayev noted Azerbaijan was playing an important role in ensuring European energy security.
“We have signed EU-Azerbaijan Partnership and Cooperation Agreement an action plan within the European Neighbourhood Policy, the agreement on visa facilitation and other important documents so far.”
They discussed future partnership in creating industrial districts with the aim of supporting small and medium sized businesses in the country`s regions.
Mustafayev spoke of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, saying 20 percent of his country`s lands have been under Armenian occupation for more than 20 years.
He said the dispute was the major obstacle to efforts to speed up regional integration.
Mard stressed the importance of strengthening relations between the EU and Azerbaijan.
