Azerbaijan, Jordan discuss expansion of relations
Nariman Aliyev highlighted the historical religious and moral ties between the nations of the two countries, adding the Azerbaijani Government has always paid special attention to the development of relations with Jordan. The Azerbaijani MP stressed the role of friendship and solidarity between the heads of the two states in the development of bilateral relations. Touching upon the prospects for the interparliamentary relations, he said more than 40 important documents have been signed up to now between the two countries. He also stressed successive cooperation between the delegations of the two countries within the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. Highlighting the current situation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Aliyev noted that a lot of Azerbaijanis had been killed during the conflict. He said 20 percent of Azerbaijan`s territories had been kept under occupation by Armenia. “Azerbaijan backs the settlement of the conflict, which is a threat to regional security, within international legal norms.”
Hazem Qashou congratulated the Azerbaijani people on the occasion of the holiday of world Muslims - Eid al-Adha. He said the Jordanian Government was keen to expand relations with Azerbaijan, and lauded ties between the two nations. “Jordan is one of the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity.”
He stressed the importance of strengthening economic relations and intensification of reciprocal visits of parliamentarians.
Touching upon the 4th Baku International Humanitarian Forum, Hazem Qashou hailed President Ilham Aliyev`s opening speech. He also expressed hope that the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute would be settled soon within international legal norms.
The sides also exchanged views over prospects for Azerbaijan-Jordan relations.
