AZERBAIJAN PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV VISITS COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY IN NEW YORK
Traditionally, during the United Nations General Assembly, this one of the world's foremost universities invites distinguished world leaders for public lectures, roundtables and special events.
During the his speech at the University, President Ilham Aliyev told about Azerbaijan, the country’s achievements and existing problems including the Armenian aggression resulted in the occupation of 20% of our lands. This territories, he said, are now used for drug cultivation and training of terrorists that seriously threatens peace and progress in the region.
The President pointed out as well that the fair stance of Azerbaijan on the issue has been reflected in a number of documents adopted by respectable and authoritative regional and international organizations. The country stands for peaceful resolution of the conflict but has a right, at the same time, to release its lands at any cost, he said.
The Azerbaijani leader also told of the country’s active involvement in peacemaking operations and fighting terror throughout the world.
He finally said that Azerbaijan is moving forward towards democracy and progress facing the future with confidence.
