Azerbaijani chess grandmaster wins The Tal Memorial blitz tournament

Baku, November 14, AZERTAC

Azerbaijani chess grandmaster Shahriyar Mammadyarov has become the winner of The Tal Memorial blitz tournament in Sochi, Russia.

He claimed the title after scoring 16 pts out of 22 pts possible.

Russia`s Alexander Grischuk and Alexander Morozevich ranked second and third with 15.5 pts and 12.5 pts respectively.

Other participants in the tournament included Vladimir Kramnik, Sergey Karjakin, Peter Svidler, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Evgeny Tomashevsky, Ernesto Inarkiev and Alexandra Kosteniuk from Russia, Boris Gelfand from Israel, and Peter Leko from Hungary.

The prize fund of the tournament was $100,000.
