Azerbaijani FM meets Palestinian counterpart
Baku, April 22 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has met Palestinian counterpart Riyad al-Maliki as part of his visit to the Middle East.
Riyad al-Maliki said Palestine regards Azerbaijan a friendly and brotherly country. He noted the visit would be an important step in terms of development of the Azerbaijan-Palestine relations.
They reached agreement to improve the relations in a variety of spheres, adding there was great potential for the expansion of the relations.
The Palestinian FM noted Azerbaijan managed to build strong image in international organizations, including the UN Security Council, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and Non-Aligned Movement. He thanked Azerbaijan for supporting Palestine.
“Azerbaijan supports soonest establishment of peace in the region. Our country will continue supporting Palestine,” the Azerbaijani minister said.
He said Azerbaijan supported a two-state solution to the dispute.
FM Mammadyarov noted Palestine had the right to become a full member of the international community. He said he would continue supporting the Palestinians in international organizations.
On the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the FM said Azerbaijan was rapidly developing and growing stronger, adding sooner or later the country would restore its territorial integrity.
