Azerbaijan`s FM meets Ukrainian counterpart
Baku, June 5 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has met his Ukrainian counterpart Konstantin Grishenko.
“The bilateral ties between Azerbaijan and Ukraine are at the level of strategic partnership, and regular meetings of the presidents of the two countries prove it,” said Mammadyarov after the meeting.
“A number of issues of mutual interest were discussed during the meeting with the Ukrainian Minister”. Mammadyarov underlined that taking into account that Ukraine will chair OSCE next year he briefed Grishenko on the negotiation process on the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He expressed hope to achieve concrete progress in the settlement of the conflict during Ukraine`s chairmanship. According to Mammadyarov, the negotiations have been going on for too long, and the current status-quo is unacceptable.
The Azerbaijani Minister pointed out that they discussed trade, economic, humanitarian, and military-technical cooperation. The ministers also discussed the cooperation between the diplomatic academies of the two countries.
In turn, the Ukrainian FM expressed pleasure with being in Baku, where “the spirit of Eurovision is still being felt”. “Ukraine has given 12 points to Azerbaijan. This is an indicator of excellent relations between our states, and great friendship of our peoples,” he said.
Grishenko added: “As a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council Azerbaijan takes part in the solution of global issues and conflict situations in the world. Ukraine is going to chair OSCE next year. Of course, settlement of the conflict will be one of the main priorities. So, it was important to listen to my colleague, get acquainted with his position on the settlement of the conflict, the resolution of which is of special importance to the people of Azerbaijan.”
The Ukrainian Minister also underscored that the Ministers of the two countries accelerated work on the preparation for the meeting of the Council of Presidents of Azerbaijan and Ukraine, which will take place in Kyiv. Grishenko stated that they agreed to conduct reciprocal trainings for diplomats.
