Azeri minister praises the country tourism boost
Baku, September 28 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s culture and tourism minister Abulfas Garayev has said 2.1 million tourists are expected to visit the country by the end of the year.
Abulfas Garayev spoke to a conference on tourism in Azerbaijan.
According to the minister, 1.5 million tourists had already visited the country this year.
“It`s a remarkable figure for a country with a population of just over nine million. The number of tourists is growing every year,” the minister said.
"Last year, 1,900 million foreign citizens came to Azerbaijan, of whom 1.5 million were tourists. Since the start of the year, the number of tourists visiting the country has increased by 14%."
Garayev also said that around 3 million tourists would visit the country in the next five years.
“The number of Azerbaijani tourists who spend their vacations abroad fell to 35,000 this year, compared to 50,000 in summer 2010.”
"This is a sign of the improvement in Azerbaijan`s tourism industry," the minister added.
