Baku discusses history teaching practices
Baku, May 31 (AZERTAC). A workshop entitled “Intercultural Dialogue through History Teaching: Best Practices and Challenges” has been held in Baku as part of the 2nd World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue.
The workshop was moderated by executive director of the Council of Europe North-South Center Roman Chlapak.
Chlapak said that history was the tool supporting intercultural dialogue. He said that history and history teaching have always been the main area of the Council of Europe`s policy. According to him, the session would play a great role in sharing successes and best practices in history teaching.
Azerbaijan`s Education Minister Mikayil Jabbarov noted that some countries` using history teaching in their own interests has become rife. It gives rise to conflicts in different corners of the globe and put obstacles to their resolution. The Minister pointed out that Azerbaijan has suffered from Armenia`s aggression for the past 20 years.
Director of the Turkish Islamic History and Art Center Halit Eren spoke about the projects implemented with the Council of Europe.
Other speakers at the event included representative of the European History Educators Association Executive Director Joke van der Leeuw-Roord, and expert of the Council of Europe Brian Karvel.
