BAKU HOSTS 35TH MEETING OF CIS POWER INDUSTRY COUNCIL
Baku, May 29 (AZERTAC). The 35th session of the CIS Council of Power Industry has taken place here today at the Hyatt-Nakhchivan hotel.
The meeting was attended by representatives of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Iran.
The meeting was opened with opening remarks of Minister of Industry and Energy of Azerbaijan Natig Aliyev who said reforms implemented by national leader Heydar Aliyev allowed to develop power industry of Azerbaijan. This development strategy has been successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev. According to the Minister, Azerbaijan stopped electricity import, even, ensuring security in power industries of neighboring states.
Natig Aliyev pointed out Azerbaijan has been exporting electricity for the past two years.
The Minister the role of international financial institutions in development of the power industry. According to him, Azerbaijan successfully cooperates with World Bank, EBRD, Islamic Development Bank, Japan Bank for International Cooperation, KfW, Bayerische Landesbank Girozentrale and others.
Natig Aliyev stressed Azerbaijan is set to increase generation of electricity up to 10,000 megawatt. To this end, new stations are being built and old ones reconstructed.
Also speaking at the meeting were President of the CIS Power Industry Council, Russian Minister of Energy Sergei Shmatko and representative of the CIS Executive Committee Aladdin Guluzadeh.
