Baku hosts Azerbaijan-Japan ICT workshop
Baku, February 13 (AZERTAC). An Azerbaijan-Japan ICT workshop has today been held in Baku.
The workshop was held as part of a visit of a delegation of Japan’s leading corporation in the field of telecommunications and satellite Nippon Electric Corporation (NEC).
The event was aimed at establishing mutual cooperation between the two countries and enhancing relations in the field of ICT.
Addressing the Azerbaijan-Japan ICT workshop, Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov spoke about future targets on building of new, diversified and sustainable economy based on the results of Azerbaijan’s energy policy.
Noting the importance of the economic sector organized on the basis of technology, science-intensive, innovative and high-technologies, the minister said in this regard, in line with its policy MCIT plans further development in three main areas.
Thus, in the coming years, it is expected to develop information and network infrastructure, manufacture of electronics, innovative products and services, offer for regional markets, and expand information technology services in the regional and domestic market.
Speaking about building of transit information highways at regional and international levels and providing regional ICT services, the minister talked about creation of new mobile application and solutions, carried out infrastructure projects, including Development of National Broadband Internet that envisages access to the broadband Internet over high-speed fiber-optic cable network and other advanced telecommunications services.
Touching upon the development concept “Azerbaijan 2020: Look into Future”, the minister noted 3 basic criteria - knowledge, human resources development, creation of special environment for the development of innovative businesses, support by state due to tax, customs and other privileges, as well as capital and funding that are necessary for the development of this area.
The Minister also noted the importance of international cooperation in the implementation of measures for the development of digital economic sector in the country and mass production of various innovative products and services. In this regard, Ali Abbasov highly appreciated the visit of NEC Corporation to Azerbaijan and expressed confidence that the visit would contribute to successful cooperation between the two countries.
Noting Azerbaijan is rich in natural resources, Ambassador of Japan Tsuguo Takahashi said the interest of other countries to Azerbaijan is growing every year. Saying the diplomatic relations between the two countries was established in 1992 and became stronger year after year, Tsuguo Takahashi underlined that there is a wide range of partnership opportunities in all areas, including in the economic field, adding that every visit is making its contribution the development of relations between the two countries. There is also great potential for cooperation in the field of ICT, said the ambassador:
“I am confident that NEC, which is offering a wide range of products and services all over the world, will also become a successful and reliable partner in Azerbaijan. This partnership will further strengthen the relations between Japan and Azerbaijan, and raise the relations to a new level.”
Speaking about the company’s activities, products and services, General Manager of Europe, Middle East, Africa Division of NEC Corporation Masahiro Ikeno expressed his country’s great interest in Azerbaijani market. Ikeno stressed the importance of bringing into conformity with local requirements of products and services provided by the corporation and optimization of technologies to local conditions.
Workshop was continued with discussions on presentation of NEC Corporation, sessions on ICT solutions, broadband Internet development project, sessions dedicated to the themes of basic network systems.
